Asia Pacific International School

We are sorry for the lack of blog posts since our arrival in Korea. We don't yet have Internet access at our apartment and we have been so busy at work that we don't have time while we are there to use the Internet. Still, we hope to have access at our apartment soon.

We are having a great time in Korea. We have been enjoying the local cuisine (and eating a lot of it) and we have even seen a few sights. It's been a little more difficult to explore our new home this time because Shana is so tired from her pregnancy, but we have been able to see a few things - such as one of the old palaces, one of the old gates to the city, and tons is canals. This is a very outdoor culture and we have been enjoying exploring outside in the nice weather.

We all started school officially on August 16th. This year, Teddy has to wear a uniform to school.  Attached is a photo of Teddy in his uniform which he wears on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The other days of the week he wears his PE uniform, which we will post a picture of soon.

APIS Retreat

We had a fun time getting to know our new co-workers at the APIS retreat. It was three days filled with team building activities and social opportunities. A great way to start off the year!

Working as a team.

The ride down was much easier!

Balancing act!

Downtown Seoul: Deoksugung Palace

When we first arrived in Seoul we thought a great introduction to the city would be to visit one of the main palaces. We visited Deoksugung Palace, which is near City Hall.

Every hour they have the changing of the guard and we were lucky to see the grand performance. One thing I love about this palace is that it's right in the middle of the city center so old mixes with new all around. Please note the Dunkin Donuts in the background of the first photo.

The guards all play instruments. Some even play shells, which you can see in the above photo.

Michael and Teddy enjoying the afternoon.

More shells!

Beautiful flags outside the palace.

Pregnant Shana standing with one of the guards.

We love the painting on all of the palace entrances.

Old and new. From the palace looking out at the ultra modern City Hall.

Beautiful trees all over the city.

After leaving the palace, we walked down the Main Street in downtown Seoul.

We happened upon some water fountains that encouraged children to run around and get wet. Teddy was psyched!

We then strolled down the reclaimed canal area and soaked our tired feet.

Lunch with Webb

Teddy's new BFF is Webb Beatty, the son of another APIS teaching couple. Webb is in 2nd grade but that doesn't seem to stop these two from having a ton of fun together.

Dream Forest

One of our first experiences in Korea was our visit to a big park near our house called Dream Forest. The park is amazing with cultural houses, fun places to eat, and a small water park. Of course, Teddy loved the water park the most!
