We arrived in Amman, Jordan on Monday morning and our driver, Hani, met us at the airport. He took us to the small apartment we rented from a friend in the 6th circle of the city. We dropped off our bags and got a snack, and we were ready to explore!
Hani took us to the Amman Children's Museum for our first stop, so the kids could burn off some of their energy.
Ripley loved playing dress up and we have decided that we will be a great auto mechanic or policeman (or criminal, depending on how you look at it).
We then drove to the oldest part of the city, the first circle, to the Amman Citidel. This is a huge site on the top of one of the seven hills in Amman that is the oldest continually inhabited area in the world.
The view of the city was amazing.
Little houses everywhere!
We could even see the famous Black and White Mosque from the hill top. I think my favorite part of the day was hearing the Call to Prayer echoing from all the different Mosques around the city.
The boys loved running around the ruins and we let them explore as much as they wanted. What could happen, right?
We even explored some of the oldest homes - caves - from about 2,000BC.
The highlight for Teddy was seeing the ruins of the Temple of Hercules. He is reading the Percy Jackson book series about modern day Greek Gods, and he thought it was neat to see the temples that the Romans built for these Gods.
We also go tot see Hercules's Hand, which is the only part left of a huge statue of the God.
On the property, we also found a building being restored that had beautiful carvings. I'm a sucker for beautiful carvings!
I'm also a sucker for a cool ceiling, and this wooden one was one of the best I've seen in a while. What do you think?
Another family photo at the Citidel. Our driver was awesome at making sure we got lots of family pictures!
We then drove down the hill to the Roman amphitheater. Luckily, we got there at the end of the day and most of the tourists had already gone home. We had it mostly to ourselves!
The view from the top using a fisheye lense!
Gotta get a couple's picture!
And another family picture to end the day!
