Downtown Seoul: Deoksugung Palace

When we first arrived in Seoul we thought a great introduction to the city would be to visit one of the main palaces. We visited Deoksugung Palace, which is near City Hall.

Every hour they have the changing of the guard and we were lucky to see the grand performance. One thing I love about this palace is that it's right in the middle of the city center so old mixes with new all around. Please note the Dunkin Donuts in the background of the first photo.

The guards all play instruments. Some even play shells, which you can see in the above photo.

Michael and Teddy enjoying the afternoon.

More shells!

Beautiful flags outside the palace.

Pregnant Shana standing with one of the guards.

We love the painting on all of the palace entrances.

Old and new. From the palace looking out at the ultra modern City Hall.

Beautiful trees all over the city.

After leaving the palace, we walked down the Main Street in downtown Seoul.

We happened upon some water fountains that encouraged children to run around and get wet. Teddy was psyched!

We then strolled down the reclaimed canal area and soaked our tired feet.
