Here is their absolutely beautiful clubhouse which had a spectacular sunset every night!
Gloria let us take our her golf cart on the course to see the kangaroos. We felt like we we were on our own private Outback animal safari.
Teddy got to do a little golf cart driving too!
Gloria and Koen thought it was be fun to drive to Cairnes for the night. The town was very cool, with a beautiful boardwalk running the length of the water and a big casino in the background.
After a fun night of Fat Yak beer and lots of meat, we took the train into the mountains to Kuranda. It was a beautiful journey past waterfalls and lush rain forest. The tracks had been laid by hand and each of the 16 tunnels was dug using pick and axe. Totally amazing!
About two thirds of the way up, we got off the train to look at the beautiful Barron Falls.
We took the sky rail down from Kuranda which was quite a feat considering that Gloria is deathly afraid of heights. We were so impressed that she volunteered to go just to show us a good time. Yay! Here is a picture of all of us at one of the forest stops on the sky rail.
After returning to Mystic Sands, Gloria took us on a day trip to Townsville where we went to the top of Castle Hill (made out of pink granite). This hill overlooks the whole city and offered a spectacular view. Behind Michael and Teddy is Magnetic Island, which is an island but is not, in fact, magnetic!
We then went to this outstanding public water park right next to the beach in Townsville. Teddy (and Mommy and Daddy) had a great time running around. The afternoon was capped off with a good old American hot dog!
To get ready for Christmas, I baked my Mom's traditional snow man cookies. Teddy had a really fun time decorating with the icing!
We were lucky enough to spend Christmas with Gloria and Koen, and their amazing family. Teddy enjoyed a Christmas morning filled with opening Santa's presents and our family presents. Of course, Teddy was spoiled rotten by everyone!
That afternoon, as we do every Christmas, we took a nature walk to the beach near their house. This is the path leading to the beach. Spectacular!
We were treated to yet another amazing sunset over the water. The perfect end to a perfect trip to Mystic Sands!
It was truly a wonderful vacation and we are thrilled to have spent the holiday with our Aussie family. Come visit us soon!
