Jordan - Jerash

We made it to the ruins of the city Jerash at the end of the second day. This city is called the Pompeii of the East because this huge Roman city remained buried in the soil for hundreds of years before being discovered in 1806.

This is the main entrance into the ruins, called the North Gate.

Next we went to the hippodrome where the Roman's would have chariot races. This is one of the smallest hippodromes found in the world but it also the best preserved example in the world.

We thought we had seen the amazing ruins, until we had ventured into the second section of the site!

Holy cow! This place is huge! The above picture is the from the Forum, look out toward the columned Main Street toward the South Gate.

More from the Forum.

Walking down the Main Street.

We just lodged to walk while the sun was going down. This is a huge city and we all wished we could have seen it when it was a thriving city!

How could someone "lose" this city? Amazing!

Mommy going down from the same temple.

It was such a fun adventure and we probably could have stayed a whole day here. I guess we will just have to come back!
