Jordan - Umm Al Qays

This is a town in Northern Jordan, near the Syrian border.

We arrived in the city in the early morning and we're thrilled that the temperature was cool and the tourists hadn't yet woken up. Ripley was especially thrilled!

This city has an amazing ruins of the ancient Gadara, which is an Ancient Greek, then Roma. city on top of a defensible hill overlooking the Jordan Valley.

We loved seeing yet another Ampitheater. As we were leaving a huge gang of high school age boys ran into the stadium and started chanting. We don't know what they were saying but they were at it for about an hour!

When we left the Ampitheater, we ran into some men who were working on the site's restoration by carving blocks of stone.

The site was huge and we found ourselves at what was the Main Street and a church. So beautiful!

Then Shana pretended to be a Roman Goddess!

The view was amazing! You could see the lush Jordan River Valley, Syria, and Israel.

The site was huge and the boys had so much fun jumping over the ruins, playing hide and seek, and having a scavenger hunt.

At this site, Jesus is said to have driven demons out of a man and into two swine, who then run down the mountain into the Sea of Galilee.
