Wharariki Beach - Day 1

We traveled to the Northern most point of the South Island to explore Whariraki Beach, also called Farewell Point because the Maori believed that this was where the departed souls left the Earth for the afterlife. There was definitely a very otherworldly feeling to this spectacular beach.

One of our favorite parts of the beach was the wild seals.

And the spectacular caves and rock formations.

The walk to and from the beach was through farmlands and forests.

(You can see our camper van in the above photo)

A horse wandered in the camp site and ate all of our bread. Not cool, horse!
